Biography

Laura Martín García is a marine biologist with a Ph.D. in benthic cartography and marine management from the University of La Laguna in the Canary Islands, Spain. She has an extensive background in benthic ecology, marine mapping and GIS, distribution modeling of benthic species, habitat classification, and assessment of conservation status. Currently, she is working at the Spanish Institute of Oceanography (IEO-CSIC), in the Canary Oceanographic Center, where her main responsibility is to characterize and model the circalittoral habitats of the Sites of Community Interest declared in the Canary Islands. In addition, she collaborates with the Marine Botany Research Group at the University of La Laguna, where she participates in the study of the distribution of protected or threatened algal species. Her areas of expertise also include spatial analysis, ecological modeling, marine biodiversity, conservation, habitat classification, and application of remote sensing.
