Biography

Elena Prado is an Engineer in Geodesy and Cartography from the University of Alcalá de Henares and a Ph.D. in Coastal Engineering, Hydrobiology and Management of Aquatic Systems from the University of Cantabria. Her professional expertise focuses on remote sensing and advanced image processing. After more than 10 years at the National Institute of Aerospace Technology (INTA), in 2016 she joined the Spanish Institute of Oceanography (IEO, CSIC), focusing her field of work on studies of vulnerable benthic habitats. Her research focuses on the application of underwater three-dimensional photogrammetry and image analysis based on artificial intelligence for the monitoring of deep vulnerable benthic habitats in the Natura 2000 Network. Her activities also include participation and leadership of oceanographic campaigns for the study of Marine Protected Areas, participation in national and international projects and supervision of students.
