Marine Microbiology

Marine microbiology is the study of microorganisms that inhabit marine environments, including oceans, seas, estuaries, and other bodies of saltwater. These microorganisms are diverse and play crucial roles in various ecological processes, impacting nutrient cycling, carbon fixation, and the overall health of marine ecosystems. Marine microbiology isn't just for the open ocean. It's also concerned with microbial communities in coastal waters and estuaries, where saltwater meets fresh. Marine microorganisms are additionally found on maritime surfaces, such as sea cliffs splashed with ocean spray, and in sediments.
