Biography

 Mahmoudrerza Hadjighassem, graduated from high school with GPA 19.06/20, then successfully passed entrance exam for medical school and became medical student at Shahid Beheshty University of medical sciences. I graduated at 1990 from medical school and worked as a General practitioner (family physician). Before I started my neuroscience study, I entered to the Residency program in Anesthesiology just for one year. I received a scholarship to study neuroscience.
I moved to Canada and started my Msc., in neuroscience followed by transferred to PhD program at the University of Ottawa, Faculty of Medicine, Department of Cellular and molecular medicine, Neuroscience Research Institute. I worked on gene regulation of 5-HT1A and 5-HT-4 receptors. 
Based on the novelty of my research, I selected by research advisory of Faculty of Medicine as one of the University of Ottawa candidates for participation in CIHR (Canadian Institute for Health Research) competition in North America. I granted as Golden Nominee at that competition. I also received twice a research Prize from CCNP (Canadian College of Neuro-pharmacology).
After I did my postdoctoral fellowship at UOttawa, I returned to my country for doing my services. I started my currier at Tehran University of medical sciences (TUMS) as Assistant professor at Anatomical sciences Department. After establishment of Department of Neuroscience, I transferred to the Department of Neuroscience. I also joined to the Brain and spinal cord injury research center at the Neuroscience Institute. Now I am Associate professor at TUMS. I am working on spinal cord injury, Neuro-oncology, Epilepsy and Neuropsychology looking for new therapeutic approaches. For this purpose, I repurposing FDA approved drugs based on their pharmacodynamics and kinetics in resistance to treatment of meso-temporal epilepsy, Glioblastoma and spinal cord injury. I also involve in cell therapy, exosome therapy and designing small novel peptides in these area of research.
