Biography

Dr. Rajesh Chandra Misra is a postdoctoral scientist at the John Innes Centre, United Kingdom. He completed his Ph.D. in Plant Biochemistry and Biotechnology from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) New Delhi, India. His doctoral research work advanced the knowledge on molecular and biochemical basis of the spatio-temporal accumulation of complex bioactive specialized metabolites of high medicinal value in traditional medicinal plants. His research work was also focused on unravelling the role of pathogenesis-related protein 5 (PR-5) from sweet basil that enhances the resistance of Arabidopsis plants to fungal pathogens and their ability to withstand abiotic stress conditions. This work provides valuable insights into plant defense mechanisms and potentially be applied to improve crop resistance to diseases and environmental stressors in agriculture. Currently, he is involved to investigate the symbiotic associations between legume plants and nitrogen-fixing rhizobia. He is also working on an identification and characterization of pathogen-induced biosynthetic pathways in bread wheat that could opened up new avenues for research into plant defense mechanisms. He horned expertise in plant biochemistry and biotechnology, specialized metabolism, synthetic biology, metabolomics, metabolic engineering, plant cell culture, plant-insect interactions, and plant-defense responses.
