Biography

Dr. Xiu Liu is a professor at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, USA. He got his MD and PhD in China. After two-year tenure of being an assistant professor at Jichi Medical School in Japan, he moved to USA to continue his research career. Over four decades, Dr. Liu’s research interest covers Neuroendocrinology, Gastroenterology and drug addiction. In the recent more than two-decades, his research work has focused on the study of addictive behavior ranging from drug addiction to overeating behavior. His research effort has been continuously funded by USA NIH and FDA grants as well as California State and University of Mississippi Medical Center funds. Using animal models of addictive behavior, Dr. Liu’s research findings have made a significant contribution to the understanding of behavioral and neurobiological basis for drug addiction, in particular nicotine and alcohol addiction. His studies have made a significant emphasis on the role of environmental cues in triggering addiction relapse. Dr. Liu has published more than 70 original research articles, 8 book chapters and 80 research abstracts. He has received numerous awards and recognitions at international, national and institutional levels. He has been serving as a member of grant review panels for international, national, state and institutional research funding agencies. He has participated in organizing international/national conferences and institutional meetings, served in chairing symposiums and sessions, and delivered key-note presentations. He has been also acting as a guest editor or an editorial board member of more than a dozen medical journals. Dr. Liu has been enthusiastic in training next generation scientists. He has trained more three dozen post-doc research fellows, graduates and research technicians.
