CANCER STEM CELLS

Cancer stem cells (CSCs) can self-renew and are found in a variety of tissues, including the breast, brain, lung, head and neck, prostate, testis, ovary, oesophagus, colon, and liver. Their origin has yet to be discovered, though a few hypotheses have been proposed. CSCs are involved in the development of cancer as well as its progression, metastasis, and recurrence. CSCs play an important role in cancer therapy and chemotherapeutic resistance.
