Cognitive and Affective Neuroscience

Cognitive and affective neuroscience are the disciplines that draw on neuroscientific evidence to further our understanding of cognitive processes like memory, language, attention, and consciousness; and of affective processes like emotion, empathy, and motivation. The difference between them is:

  • Cognitive perspective-taking may be defined as the ability to infer the thoughts or beliefs of another agent
  •  Affective perspective-taking may be defined as the ability to infer the emotions or feelings of another agent
