Valéria Regina de Souza Moraes obtained her PhD in Organic Chemistry from the Universidade Estadual de Campinas (UNICAMP- Campinas,SP, Brazil). She has two post-doctoral periods (2001-2002 and 2013-2014) at the Universidade Federal de São Carlos (UFSCar, São Carlos, SP, Brazil). Currently she is a full professor at the Universidade Federal de Sergipe (UFS- São Cristovão, SE, Brazil). Her experience is in the area of Chemistry, with emphasis on Natural Products, working mainly in the following topics: Verbenaceae, Euphorbiaceae, flavonoids, phenolics, chromatographic profile, HPLC, RMN and MS. The research currently under development involves the chemical and biological study of genotypes/ accessions/ chemotypes from Lippia alba, Lantana camara, Croton grewioides and Croton blanchetianus, using conventional and modern extraction techniques (MAE and UAE) and environmentally friendly solvents. She also works with industrial waste of fruits (mango) and agricultural waste (cassava) in order to give added value to these by-products. Effective member of the Brazilian Chemical Society.
