Professor Maciej Kurpisz is an independent team leader, Head of Department of Reproductive Biology and Stem Cells, Institute of Human Genetics Pol. Acad.Sci., Poznan, Poland. He graduated medicine (1980), Poznan Medical University where he has accomplished first doctorate (1983) and then post doc trainings in London Hospital Medical College, UK (183-1985) as well as in Oregon Primate Research Center and Jones Institute for Reproductive Medicine, Norfolk, (USA 1986-1989). He is also a honoris causa doctorate recipient of Lviv National Medical University. His major scientific contributions include human genetics, imunology andrology and stem cell application. Numerous collaborations with the United States, United Kingdom, Germany etc. enabled him to co-discover novel genes: TEX-11 -responsible for meiosis resumption, CGNA – participating in male infertility and cancerogenesis, he also performed in silico assay for human genes and corresponding mouse knock-outs allowing him to publish in top journals (New Eng J Med., PNAS etc.).
