Stem Cell Research and Gene Therapy

stem cell is an undifferentiated cell that can divide to produce some offspring cells that remain stem cells and some cells that are destined to differentiate (become specialized). Stem cells can also divide to produce other offspring cells. The differentiated cells that make up the tissues and organs of animals and plants are continually obtained from stem cells. Stem cells are attracting a lot of attention because they have the potential to be used in therapies to replace damaged or defective cells caused by a wide range of diseases and injuries, including diabetes, Parkinson's disease, and heart disease.
There are two significant sorts of foundational microorganisms: Adult stem cells and Embryonic stem cells, also known as tissue stem cells.

Gene therapy is a method that modifies a person’s genes to treat or cure disorders. There are several mechanism included in gene therapy such as :

  • Replacing a disease-causing gene with a healthy duplicate of the gene
  • Introducing a new or modified gene into the body to help treat a disease
  • Inactivating a disease-causing gene that is not acting properly

There are different types of gene therapy products, including:
Plasmid DNA
Bacterial vectors
Viral vectors
Human gene editing technology
Patient-derived cellular gene therapy products
