Genome Integrity

The cellular processes that ensure genome stability and the consequences of instability are referred to as Genome Integrity. DNA damage processing in the context of chromatin and chromosomes, control of cell cycle checkpoints, and control of apoptosis are all processes that regulate the maintenance of genome integrity. Genome integrity is essential for normal cell division, healthy aging, tissue homeostasis and the prevention of cancer and other diseases. To understand how genome integrity maintenance influences aging and cancer development, a number of model systems, including single-cell organisms and a variety of higher living organism studies on human cells/tissues or patients, are needed.
