Genetic Vaccines

Gene vaccines are a novel method of immunization and immunotherapy that delivers one or more genes that encode proteins for the pathogen rather than a live or inactivated organism (or a subunit thereof). The expression of genes from pathogens that encode surface antigens that are able to induce neutralizing antibodies in the host of the pathogen is the simplest application of modern genetic manipulation techniques to the development of vaccines.
