Genetic Disorders

Genetic disorders can be caused by a mutation - a harmful change to a gene, also known as a pathogenic variant, in one gene (monogenic disorder), by mutations in multiple genes (multifactorial inheritance disorder), by a combination of gene mutations and environmental factors, or by damage to chromosomes such as changes in the number or structure of entire chromosomes (Chromosomal). Common genetic disorders include:

Down syndrome
Fragile-X syndrome
Klinefelter syndrome
Triple-X syndrome
Turner syndrome
Arthritis
Autism spectrum disorder, in most cases
Cancer, in most cases
Coronary artery disease
Diabetes
Migraine headaches
Duchenne muscular dystrophy
Familial hypercholesterolemia, a type of high cholesterol disease
Hemochromatosis (iron overload)
Neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1)
Sickle cell disease
