Biochemical Genetics

Biochemical genetics is a combination of biochemistry and genetics. Biochemistry deals largely with the structure and function of cellular components, such as carbohydrates, proteins, lipids, nucleic acids, and other biomolecules, their functions and transformations during life processes. Genetics is a study of heredity, particularly the transmission mechanisms and variation of inherited characteristics between organisms that are similar to or related to one another. As a result, biochemical genetics is a branch of genetics that examines the mechanisms by which genes control and regulate protein structure and synthesis as well as their chemical structure. It investigates gene-enzyme interactions and their influence on biochemical pathway function.
