Microbe-host interactions are the ways microbes, such as bacteria, fungi, and viruses, interact with their hosts, like plants and animals. These relationships can be helpful, harmful, or have no effect. The microbes and hosts exchange chemicals and signals, which can result in different outcomes. For example, some microbes live in the gut and help with digestion and make vitamins for humans. On the other hand, harmful microbes can cause sickness by entering host cells and making the immune system respond.
