Catalysis for Chemical Synthesis

Catalysis for Chemical Synthesis

"Catalysis" refers to the process of introducing a catalyst to accelerate a reaction. A catalyst is a substance that lowers the activation energy of the chemical reaction but is not consumed by it. A chemical reaction is required for both a reactant and a product in a catalyst. There are two types of catalysis: homogenous, in which all of the components are dispersed in the same phase as the reactant, and heterogenous, in which none of the components are in the same phase as the reactant.

Organic Chemistry

Organic chemistry is a subdiscipline within chemistry involving the scientific study of the structure, properties, and reactions of organic compounds and organic materials, i.e., matter in its various forms that contain carbon atoms. The study of the structure determines its structural formula. The study of properties includes physical and chemical properties, and evaluation of chemical reactivity to understand their behavior. The study of organic reactions includes the chemical synthesis of natural products, drugs, and polymers, and the investigation of individual organic molecules in the laboratory and via theoretical (in silico) study.

Computational Catalysis

Computational Catalysis

A procedure that takes into account surface structure, adsorbate–adsorbate interactions, and reaction conditions for all heterogeneous catalysts. The thermodynamic analysis of the system was presented, and it was explained how this can be used to obtain coverage-dependent adsorption energies and surface phase diagrams, as well as equilibrium surface properties from the converged material. In addition, it enables the average properties of longer surfaces to be simulated under fixed temperature and chemical potential conditions, allowing access to average coverages, heat capacities, and phase behavior. Finally, we explain how these can be used to describe surface kinetic processes like diffusion or adsorption and how they relate surface properties to reaction conditions.

Enantioselective Catalysis

Enantioselective Catalysis

Enantioselective catalysis represents for the chemist seeking to develop an efficient, safe, and cost-effective way to form a chiral product or target molecule that is suitable for the purpose. Enantioselective catalysis has become such a popular research area, and the subject of so many monographs, symposia, and conferences, that it is challenging to offer many introductions. Enantioselective catalysis consists the catalytic, and selective generation of a given enantiomer of a chiral product from achiral reactants. The non-racemic product from a rigorously achiral or racemic chiral catalyst would provide equal quantities of each enantiomer.
