Dr. Nimet Yıldırım Tirgil is an accomplished Assistant Professor in Biomedical Engineering at Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University, with a research focus on biosensor technology and nanomaterials. She earned her Ph.D. in Bioengineering from Northeastern University-USA, where she developed next-generation biosensor systems for environmental water quality monitoring. Her Master’s work at Ege University-TURKEY involved creating bacterial sensors with nanoparticles. Dr. Yıldırım Tirgil has been the principal investigator in several prestigious projects, including those funded by the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TÜBİTAK) and Health Institutes of Turkey (TÜSEB), which involved developing electrochemical biosensors for detecting circulating tumor DNA, SARS-CoV-2 antibodies, and parathyroid hormone. Her work also extends to fluorescence-based biosensors for environmental toxins and organoboron-based materials for enzymatic biosensors. Dr. Yıldırım Tirgil has published extensively in high-impact journals, with recent papers focusing on advanced biosensor systems for detecting various biomarkers. Her research on molecularly imprinted polymers for thrombin detection, aptamer-based systems for serotonin and dopamine sensing, and carbon nanorod modified electrodes for lactate biosensing are particularly noteworthy. She holds patents for nanotube-based biosensors and click-chemistry methods for detecting tumor DNA. Additionally, she has authored chapters in books on flexible nanobiosensors and wearable diagnostic devices, contributing significantly to both scientific literature and practical innovations in biosensing technology.
