Biography

Dr. Leonel Avendaño Reyes is a distinguished academic and researcher in the field of Animal Science, with a specialization in Animal Physiology and Breeding. After earning a BSc in Animal Science from the Universidad Autónoma de Baja California in 1984, he pursued an MSc in Animal Production, focusing on Animal Breeding at FMVZ – UNAM, México, D.F., in 1988. In 1999, He completed a Ph.D. in Animal Physiology with a minor in Statistics at Mississippi State University, USA. Throughout a prolific career, Dr. Leonel Avendaño Reyes has led the Academic Group of Animal Physiology and Genetics, recognized as a Consolidated group by SEP from 2007 to 2026. With a PRODEP profile from 2002 to 2026 and membership in the National Research System (SNI level 3) from 2000 to 2025, He is also a respected member of the Mexican Sciences Academy since 2015. Dr. Leonel Avendaño Reyes has made significant contributions to the scientific community, authoring 200 manuscripts in international indexed journals. In addition, they have guided numerous students as part of 45 BS theses, 65 MS theses, and 30 Ph.D. theses. Dr. Leonel Avendaño Reyes has participated in 36 research projects funded by various prestigious organizations, including CONACYT, SNI, SEP, UABC, VIRBAC, MSD, and local producers. Furthermore, Dr. Leonel Avendaño Reyes has presented at 210 national and international conferences and meetings, further solidifying their status as a leader in the field of Animal Science.
